Best 1911 GI Sight Upgrades to Improve Your Accuracy

The 1911 originally designed by John Browning has been an American staple since the early 1900s. Very few guns have impacted the competitive gun market more than the 1911. Made famous by Colt pistols the design of the 1911 has barely changed in over 100 years. As one of the most popular weapons of all times there is a perfect 1911 out there for everyone. With nearly perfect triggers out of the factory there’s very little that needs replaced when it comes to the 1911. The only real upgrades that the 1911 needs are improved grips sights and holsters.

The Best 1911 GI Sights For The Money

1. Trijicon 3 Dot Night Sights

You really can’t go wrong with a nice set of Trijicon sights. Trijicon is known for making some of the best sights in the firearm industry. This night sight set is designed to be used with any standard GI style 1911. Trijicon sights are expensive but they are worth every penny. You will notice a huge difference over the standard 1911 GI sights. This is by far the best upgrade your going to find for your 1911 GI.

If you are looking for the absolute best night sights on the market than stick with Trijicon. No other manufacturer even comes close to the quality of these Trijicon Sights. Trijicon sights have a wide variety of color options for even the most discriminating shooter. My choice would be the basic white three dot GI Sights, but you can also buy them in red orange and yellow. With high contrast bright white sights during the day and glowing tritium night sights you’ll be able to stay on target. The Three dot iron sights will increase night fire accuracy considerably. Trijicon even claims an increase of five times over traditional iron sights. These sights were made to last with sturdy rubber encased lamps to withstand shock and heavy recoil. The glass lamps are filled with a pressurized tritium gas that glows bright green during the night. Using some of the brightest tritium in the industry these sights are extremely easy to see. You won’t have to worry about Trijicon sights ever snagging on your clothes or holster. The snag free design easily fits in holsters and glides out with ease. Trijicon sights are very easy to install, but you’ll likely need a Sight Pusher or vice for installation. Why don’t you save yourself some hassle and buy the Trijicon 1911 Gi Sights today.

2. Meprolight Tru-Dot Night Sights

The Meprolight Tru-Dot night sight is a budget option if you can’t afford the Trijicon sight. Meprolight sights have quickly taken over the night sight industry. They make a high quality sight for just about every pistol you can think of.

It really is an injustice to call the Meprolight night sight a budget option. They’re built to last and use some of the brightest tritium in the industry. If you’ve ever seen Glock night sights you should be familiar with Meprolight’s products. Meprolight makes the tritium night sights found on Factory Glock’s. They’re the go to night sight in the law enforcement and military community thanks to their affordable pricing and bright tritium. Using a snag free design you won’t have to worry about these sights catching on your clothing or holster. Using the best tritium tubes in the industry these sights really shine. With a high contrast white outline during the day and bright green in low light. Like with all tritium lights the brightness will slowly fade over time. Honestly the only ding I can give these sights is their looks. They don’t have the same slick and smooth finish found on Trijicon sights. If you want to save some money without losing a lot on quality buy the Meprolight Tru-Dot Night Sights today.

3. Kensight Adjustable 1911 GI Sights

This fully adjustable sight set is a huge improvement over the standard 1911 mil spec sights. This sight made by Kensight is a fully adjustable option for your mil spec 1911. I don’t personally know much about the Kensight manufacturing company. All I know is they’ve been around since the mid 90’s and they make a decent product. Since this is one of the few 1911 GI adjustable sights that are currently available we don’t have a lot of options.

If you are looking for a mil spec adjustable sight there really aren’t a lot of options. Most of the adjustable sights you find are random Chinese knockoffs that may or may not fit. At least you know what you are getting with the Kensight adjustable sights. These sights seem to be high quality and they offer a high level of adjustment for your 1911. Kensight offers a snag free design and will fit in most 1911 holsters. The white paint on these sights is a significant improvement over stock 1911 sights. These sights actually come slightly bigger than the slot in your 1911. This is due to the slight differences in manufacturing tolerances. They don’t want your sight to be loose and fly out. You will have to file the rear sight down so that it will properly fit in your 1911.

Which 1911 GI Sights are Right For You?

It can be difficult to find a great set of sight for your 1911 GI. Older GI sights use a crude design that doesn’t help much in low light conditions. Honestly what can you expect from a design that’s nearly 100 years old. The easiest way to upgrade your 1911 GI Sights is to install a brand new set of night sights. With a nice set of night sights you will be able to see in almost any lighting conditions. Tritium night sights significantly improve your sight picture and speed up your follow up shots.

If you’ve ever had to look through the sights on a GI 1911 you will see why so many people want to upgrade these sights. Most people who purchase a new 1911 GI sight will want to get a nice set of nice sights. What I chose for my 1911 was the Trijicon 3 Dot Sights. The sturdy attractive design of the Trijicon night sights fit perfectly on my Colt 1911. Meprolight Sights offer a very bright set of sights for your GI 1911. It doesn’t matter what you pick it’s going to be an improvement over stock sites. If you are looking for a new set of adjustable sights check out these from Kensight.
