So what are the best kid friendly lures to try?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What works for you probably won&#8217;t work for <g class=\"gr_ gr_5 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace\" id=\"5\" data-gr-id=\"5\">you&#8217;re<\/g> <g class=\"gr_ gr_4 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins doubleReplace replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"4\" data-gr-id=\"4\">child<\/g>.  It takes years of practice to learn all those subtle techniques that you take for granted.  Keep things simple with the following bass lures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5>A Few Tips to Keep Fishing Fun<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>We all love taking our children fishing for the first time.  It&#8217;s not about catching a ton of fish, it&#8217;s about creating lasting memories so they&#8217;ll want to keep coming back.  Here are a few tips to make sure your day stays fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Start With The Basics:<\/strong>  Everybody should learn how to fish a basic bobber\/nightcrawler combo.  Handling and tearing a few nightcrawlers seems to help build confidence once they need to handle their first own fish.<\/li><li><strong>Move onto Faster Lures:<\/strong>  Children have a short attention span so don&#8217;t be surprised when they&#8217;re bored of watching a bobber.  Move onto faster lures that require a lot of casts.  They&#8217;re so much more fun to use and helps with basic casting skills.<\/li><li><strong>Plan Plenty of Breaks:<\/strong>  Bring lots of snacks and expect a little bit of goofing off.  Just because you can sit and fish for hours on end doesn&#8217;t mean a child can.  Let them play in the grass and maybe even get a little bit wet. <\/li><li><strong>Don&#8217;t Push:<\/strong>  Not every child will be able to handle their first fish.  If they aren&#8217;t ready pushing only leads to tears and ruining the experience.  <\/li><li><strong>Know When to Call it Quits:<\/strong>  Plan on only spending a few hours down on the water.  When their minds start to wander change things up.  Try Going for a walk, having lunch or feeding the ducks.  You can get back to fishing after you&#8217;re done.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>Kid Friendly Bass Lures<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can&#8217;t expect your child to have the patience to work a jerkbait across the bottom or get that perfect pitch onto the edge of the weeds.  It&#8217;s all about setting realistic expectations and getting their lure in front of as many fish as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>1)  Spinnerbaits<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Spinnerbaits are one of the easiest lures to master, plus they&#8217;re proven to catch a ton of fish.  Go with smaller lures like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/d\/Fishing-Spinners-Spinnerbaits\/BOOYAH-Pond-Magic-Sunrise-Colorado\/B006315TME\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1550958412&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=small+spinnerbait&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=jdhute74-20&amp;linkId=bcf0d7c3f1b5c92e9db43046b92a8c7a&amp;language=en_US\">Booyah Pond Magic Spinnerbait<\/a>.  Smaller spinnerbaits will still bring in bass, but they&#8217;re also small enough for panfish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s no complicated rigging or technique that you need to teach.  Just point out where your child should cast and let them reel them in.  Eventually something going to bite.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plus most spinnerbaits are pretty weedless so they&#8217;re perfect from shore.  I like working parallel to shore right along the grassline.  There&#8217;s sure to be a few monsters looking for an easy meal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>2) Grubs<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Grubs paired with a small jig are an excellent foray into soft plastic lures.  Those <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Mister-Twister-3-Inch-Lure-Pack-Chartreuse\/dp\/B00019NDOU\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1550958916&amp;sr=8-7&amp;keywords=mister+twister&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=jdhute74-20&amp;linkId=c8c8d5398f757e8a0473001621e5080e&amp;language=en_US\">3-inch Mister Twister Grubs<\/a> are <g class=\"gr_ gr_394 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace\" id=\"394\" data-gr-id=\"394\">provent<\/g> to catch loads of fish and are even used by the pros.  You can teach a basic Texas-Rig that they&#8217;ll be able to use the rest of their life or pair it with a small weighted jig head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once again it&#8217;s all about that weedless setup and keeping things easy.  This setup is really easy to cast and bass love them. Don&#8217;t expect perfect casts every time and get ready to help work your way out of cover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>3)  Poppers and Jitterbugs<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s just something fun about fishing topwater lures.  Watching bass break the surface is what really got me excited about fishing.  They&#8217;re easy to cast and don&#8217;t require much training to get the technique down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Rebel-Pop-R-Triple-Threat\/dp\/B004MP6NWI\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1550962414&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=rebel+pop+r+triple+threat&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=jdhute74-20&amp;linkId=2598fd0be679585beec586fa4646013b&amp;language=en_US\">Rebel Pop&#8217;R Triple Threat<\/a> and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Arbogast-Triple-Threat-Pack-Legendary\/dp\/B004MPDURY\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1550962441&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=arbogast+triple+threat&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=jdhute74-20&amp;linkId=e25cdbf1649d11f0b4ea0563f8f581e8&amp;language=en_US\"> Arbogast Triple Threat.<\/a>  They really aren&#8217;t that expensive and you&#8217;ll have a wide variety of lures to choose from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They aren&#8217;t completely weedless which could be a problem for young children.  Just try to work them along the <g class=\"gr_ gr_30 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace\" id=\"30\" data-gr-id=\"30\">grassline<\/g> and nearby docks and laydowns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>4)  Hollow-Body Frogs<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Hollow-Body frogs are another weedless lure that works really well in heavy cover.  You&#8217;ll clean on those early mornings and late night fishing trips when bass invade the shallows.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a lot of great frogs out there, but I always stick to the basics.  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Booyah-Bait-Company-Crasher-Fishing\/dp\/B00631HOFY\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1550962739&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=booyah+pad+crasher&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=jdhute74-20&amp;linkId=b8e9e58e9ff6bcdf147d6df57188ca6b&amp;language=en_US\">Booyah&#8217;s Padcrasher<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Strike-King-Sexy-Copper-4-Inch\/dp\/B007VGBRHQ\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1550962790&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=kvd+frog&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=jdhute74-20&amp;linkId=c33e90af14067b2149fd41a10b9771e9&amp;language=en_US\">KVD Sexy Frog<\/a> are two of my favorites. They bring in huge bass, but they&#8217;re mostly ignored by bluegill and other small fish.  Plus they&#8217;ll never get hung up regardless of the cover you&#8217;re working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>5)  Lipless Crankbaits and Squarebills<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>During the spring spawn you can really tear up the shallows using a lipless and squarebill crankbaits.  Your choice will depend on how much grass and debris there is.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These probably won&#8217;t be your first choice for young fisherman, but older kids will quickly learn the technique.  Kids tend to reel faster than they should so go with a model designed for 2-3 feet deeper water than you would normally choose.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve had a lot of luck fishing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Strike-King-Redeye-Chrome-0-5-Ounce\/dp\/B002DQRBHY\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1550963892&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=red+eye+shad&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=jdhute74-20&amp;linkId=abb1647994e753431d3825955c60bbde&amp;language=en_US\">Red eye shad<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Strike-King-Squarebill-Crankbait-1-5-Ounce\/dp\/B00WN5QKWC\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1550963843&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=kvd+squarebill&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=jdhute74-20&amp;linkId=6d2401bfe36e8b8fb6938169f1d792c2&amp;language=en_US\">Strike King Squarebills<\/a> in shallow water.  You&#8217;re definitely going to lose a few <g class=\"gr_ gr_5 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling\" id=\"5\" data-gr-id=\"5\">squarebills<\/g> along the way so you might want to start off with cheap <g class=\"gr_ gr_4 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace\" id=\"4\" data-gr-id=\"4\">no name<\/g> brands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>6) Night Crawlers and Soft Plastic Worms<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>At some point in every kids life you need to teach them how to fish with nightcrawlers.  There&#8217;s just something about digging into a cup of worms that brings out our primal nature.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ll probably get more bluegill bites than bass, but that doesn&#8217;t really matter.  Bringing in fish is all most kids care about. Doesn&#8217;t matter if it&#8217;s a 2 inch bluegill or monster bass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><g class=\"gr_ gr_5 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"5\" data-gr-id=\"5\">Eventually<\/g> you should switch things up and teach basic rigs using soft plastic worms.  Simple weedless rigs like the Texas-Rig and Carolina-Rig are best. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stick to smaller 5-7 inch worms and your basic color schemes.
